Since I believed all of the positive reviews posted about SolarVPS, I thought anyone considering their services should know the how they operate from my brief experience as a customer. I have 5 VPS Windows servers setup in a cluster for SQL, IIS, and a couple of Application servers. There were all setup successfully setup a VPSland and I decided to move them to Solar because the plan was better, the service seemed to be better, and the speed was faster. I received access to the 5 servers a few days after setting up the account and I started configuring the servers. I utilize the MS VPN client on the VPS to connect to our Domain Controller with a windows task setup to run rasdial.exe and keep a persistent VPN connection. This setup works well on VPSLand, Netrack, and Point North Networks VPS solutions which all use Parallels Containers (the same as Solar).

This situation may be specific to our case but be aware of two things that may happen to you if you choose to work with SolarVPS. First, if the tech support department can’t solve your problem, they might suspend your servers and you might loose data and time. Second, you may give them money but they may not feel obligated to provide anything in return for that money.

For some reason, there is a bug in the SolarVPS system that causes the container to get stuck in stopping mode when VPN and windows tasks as utilized on their containers. Their tech support dept seemed to be honest and detailed about the problem and said they had to work with Parallels to solve the problem but they would have to suspend all 5 of our servers while they looked into the problem. They worked on the problem for more than 3 weeks and finally said they could not solve the problem and they would not activate our servers.

Pricing was OK fopr the service and speed. VPSLand is much cheaper but thay have poor service.

We paid for 30 days of service up front and even though the service was suspended by their tech support dept or disabled because of the bug in their software the first day we received service, they decided that they would keep all of the money meant for 30 days of service and tried to make us pay for a 10 day cancelation penalty. In this case they are the same as a fraudulent internet merchant that sells you something online and never delivers it.
